Where we originated from

Jiyu Martial Arts was founded in 2006 with one simple goal: to create a martial arts school where students could build confidence, discipline and respect in a positive environment.

In 2020, Dean Howard took over the club with a vision of modernising the coaching while staying true to traditional martial arts values. Since then, the academy has continued to grow, welcoming hundreds of students and expanding both its Karate and Kickboxing programmes.

In 2026, that vision became reality with the opening of our very first full-time martial arts academy in Cheadle. Having our own dedicated facility has allowed us to provide a professional training environment with permanent mats, punch bags, mirrors and specialist equipment to help every student reach their potential.

Although the academy has grown, our mission remains exactly the same as it was in 2006: helping children and adults become more confident, disciplined and resilient through martial arts.
